The historical part

A medley of Venetian, French and British influences is reflected on the Spianada square of Corfu. Located between the Old Fortress and the Old Town, it was initially famous for its large dimensions - 42.000 sq. m.

In the south east of the island, in Chalkiopoulos lagoon which belongs to the general area of Kanoni peninsula, the church of Panagia Vlaherna is located.

Palaiokastritsa village, one of the most picturesque locations of Corfu, is located almost 25 km north - west of Corfu Old Town.

The New Fortress of the city, known with the Italian name Fortezza Nuova is located on the hill of Saint Markos, above the old port of the island. It is considered as an architecture miracle mainly because of its well –built scale and its exceptional conservation.

On the southern side of Spiniada square the Maitland Peristyle or Rotunda, one of the sights of British occupation, stands.

The landmark and meeting point for visitors and locals in Corfu is the famous Liston. It is an impressive complex of multi-storeyed buildings which were built during the French occupation between the years 1807 – 1814.

The small island of Kyra Dikaia (also called “KeraDikia” and “KyraDikia”) is situated in the western shores of Corfu, almost 150m distance from the coast, near to Sinarades Village.

Along the lost pathways of Epidavros

Wilhelm II (1859-1941), was a German Kaiser (formal German title that equalizes with emperor) who lived and was influenced in the Island of Corfu. He was one of the most recognizable public figures of World War I., who was enjoying spending his summers at Achilleion Palace in Corfu.

The Old Town of Corfu is a cultural UNESCO World Heritage Site since August 2006.

The Palace of St. Michael and St. George is located on the northern part of the historical Spiniada square. It is also known as the ”Royal Palace”, the ”City Palace” or the “Old Palace”.
