Alongside the traditional groves of olive trees and citrus fruits, are orchards with pears, apricots, peaches and nectarines, while stock-raising is also considerably developed.
Wealth does not come from tending the land and livestock. Nonetheless, there are no unemployed persons in Dimaina and none of the young people leave their native village for elsewhere. There are no fancy houses to be seen in the village, because the people prefer to invest in modern installations, such as olive presses, and farm machinery. And, as they themselves say, if they are competitive about anything, this is who will have the best yields.
In 1977 the Greek Parliament declared as Scheduled Monuments of Nature eight centuries-old olive trees, under the title “The Dimaina olive trees”. Even if you do not manage to seek them out, certainly you will see some very old olive trees in the wider area.
