It covers an area of about 500 square meters full of cypress trees, wild olive trees and a church takes place at the top of the island. The islet has a length of up to 60 meters, a larger width of 30 and a height of the surface of the sea about 20 meters. The only human interference is a small pier that locals have built, so they could leave their boats and more than 100 stairs in order to reach the top.
The islands’ name is exactly the same with the adjective given to the church of Virgin Mary. Locals call it “Theotokos Kyra Dikaia” which means “Virgin Mary of Justice”, provided the Greek adjective “δικαία -dikaia” is the correspond “justice” in English. The Church operates twice a year: the Apostles Peter and Paul, on June 29th and the Birthday of the Virgin on September 8th. On this day many visitors from Sinarades and several of the nearby villages arrive on the island with boats from Gialiskari or Kontogyalos harbors to attend the Divine Liturgy. Local testimonies referred also to their tradition after the liturgy. Eating and drinking their traditional products under the shadow of olive trees.
According to tradition, there was a Monastery on the island since the 15th c. which prospered during the 18th century but, later it was abandoned. The monastery had many monks and was served by a large boat. Nowadays, restored cells and storehouse of the monastery located just beyond the church. Also, at the right wall of the Church there are frescoes depicting Virgin Mary and Jesus.
Nowadays, the Cultural –Environmental association of Sinarades village holds the name of “Kyra Dikia” honored the great significance of the island.
