War, "the father of all" according to Heraclitus is the axis of this museum and its goal is to keep memories alive. Military conflicts, the most atrocious resort, reveal the motivating powers behind historical events. Through photographs, souvenirs, flags, weapons, loot, medals, uniforms, and printed material, the story of war on this land is intrinsically connected to its existence. If "heroes fight like Greeks", as Churchil said, the Greeks made heroism their unique path towards freedom.
Here, in the historical building of the first military academy, the "Academy of Evelpides" on Amalia Street, the notion for world peace seems imperative and necessary for our civilization. The exhibits' narrative begins with the participation of the people of Argolid, this small corner of the Greek land, and their great contribution to the struggles of the Greek Nation. The visitor is guided through the "art of war" of the time of the revolution, when Nafplio was the heart of the nation, at the time of Governor Kapodistrias and the history of the "Central War Academy".
The concern of the Governor and the goal of the academy was to establish and train a regular Greek army, worthy of the standards of the era and of a modern European state. Here the great conflicts in which the Greek Army participated are revived: World War I, Asia Minor campaign, World War II, German Occupation, Resistance, Liberation, but also other elements from the participation of Nafpliots in the struggle for Macedonia and in the Balkan Wars.
