The first Philharmonic Society was founded on 1840. Since then, the Corfiots have established 18 Philharmonic Societies including three in Corfu Town and 15 in the inland.
The Sinarades Philharmonic society has a history of its own. Founded in 1960 by Nikolaos Pigis, it was a cooperate effort which was developed to an ever–growing active association. With the gradual purchase of musical instruments (mostly wind instruments), hiring specialized teachers both for theoretical and practical lessons and acquiring its own space, the Sinarades Philharmonic Society built an extrovert profile.
Nowadays, musical notes surround the village of Sinarades adding to the traditional environment “notes” of an old film set. It could be characterized as a cultural conveyor which learn and impart the love of music to younger generations..It isa non-profit organization, aim to extend musical education, providing scholarships to students, both inside and outside of Corfu.
As all the island’s Philharmonics, the Sinarades Philharmonic Society has a leading role in the festive and cultural events of Corfu and abroad. Summer concerts, celebrations of local Saints, for example the celebrations of the patron Saint Spyridon, as well as the famous Easter celebration are few of the events that point out the local festivities.
