As one leaves Areopoli, the bay gradually appears along with its three independent villages: Limeni, Neo Itylo, and Karavostasi. They may be just a few kilometres apart from each other, though they should in no case be considered similar.
Limeni has always been though as the port of Areopoli, and is therefore strongly connected with her history of battles and politics. The tower belonging to the Mavromichalis family, now restored to its former glory, looms over the wild scenery as if protecting it from change.
At the centre of the bay, Neo Itylo was established during the 20th century, mainly to cover the increasing accommodation needs of the area.Last but not least, Karavostasi, also known in the past as "small Algiers", is a port boasting thousands of years' worth of history, as well as a turbulent past of piracy and battles.
