Pine-clad slopes embrace its harbour, while the surrounding area is densely planted with olive and citrus trees. In summertime the settlement is pleasantly busy, offering opportunities for relaxation, good food, entertainment and alternative tourism.
Located here is the ancient Theatre of the city of Epidavros, the venue of “Μusical July”, the well-known small festival that brings employment for the locals and attracts connoisseurs of drama and music, as well as performing artists, Greek and foreign. On those days the little harbour fills with yachts and sailing vessels, moored alongside the fishing boats.
Concurrently with the festival, an open-air “Agritourism Festival” is organized on the waterfront, promoting local products and supporting small-scale producers, cottage industries and processing units. It hosts exhibiters from all over the Peloponnese and includes product tasting (of honey, etc.), music and dance events, one-day colloquia, and so on. On the vendors’ stalls visitors will find homemade jams, marmalades and sweetmeats, biological honey, virgin olive oil and olives, cheeses from Tracheia, Argolic wines and many other excellent products.
A short distance from the village are lovely beaches, such as Gialasi with an organized camp site, beach bars and water sports, Vagonia, Kalamaki and others. For those who like rambling, hiking, bicycling there are pathways leading to the archaeological sites and to beaches.
The clean safe waters are ideal for snorkeling. For those interested in such an experience there is the local Epidive center. Visible along part of the underwater route are submerged ruins of the ancient city. Another of the activities available in Archaia Epidavros is hang gliding. The local Flying Paradise attracts parachutists from Greece and Europe, as the gentle rising air currents of the area favour this sport.
