Its construction started in 1923, at the east coast of the town, and its operation three years later in 1926. A big variety of wines and many alcohol products were its main production line.
Both the construction and the architectonical design were characterized as pioneering. The reinforced concrete, a brand-new, for that time period, building material was the main cause for the “pioneering construction”. Moreover, Kronos’ “pioneering architectonical design” is due to the outstanding similarity of its external frontage with an old gothic mansion with renaissance features, as arches and small openings. Τhe distillation towels and the closed roofed tanks are equally impressive as the main building. Some of its thirty buildings, have marked as the ideal samples of the industrial architecture. Even nowadays, thirty-two years since Kronos’ closed down, the scenery of the industrial landscape has almost preserved without big changes.
Kronos is without a doubt a piece of Eleusina’s industrial heritage which played an active role in the figuration of the modern civilization. So, beyond differences, there are some common characteristics in the industrial – cultural dyad that helped in society’s development! Industrial buildings used as conveyors of arts, as Kronos does since 2003. Kronoshas hosted ancient dramatic theatrical performances, various art exhibitions and similar cultural activities on the occasion of Aisxylia festival. Through Kronos’ participation in Aisxylia festival, a harmonic joint between the cultural and the industrial heritage is obvious! Eleusinas’ profile couldn’t have been better defined!
