Music was and still is an important piece of Arnaia folklore tradition. The local songs in their majority are mostly based on narratives, legends, historical facts and they are preserved through customs, religious festivals and celebrations. As a whole, they are integrated into the range of Greek folk melodies and poetry.
The choir or Arnaia was established in 1983 while its philarmonic exists since 1930. Men and women who constitute the members are cultural conveyors of Arnaias’ music heritage. The choir is directed by the conductor Vasileios Kokkaliaris since its inception. It has an extrovert character which is expressed in concerts around Greece and abroad as well as in records and cds productions. It has cooperated with respectful artists as Manolis Mitsias, Maria Farantouri, Petros Gaitanos and others under the institution of “Aristotelian Summer Academy” and much other charity organizations. The number of the choir’s member is constantly increased through years and the “voice” of Arnaia is becoming more and more recognized and respectable by local and international music organizations.
Since 2005, Arnaia has an authorized music school by the Ministry of Culture, where students learn their musical heritage and acquire a certificate music diploma up to three directions in their musical studies: classical, traditional and modern.
